Lyrics

Sending out a prayer, I know you will meet me there,
There in the silence,
There in the night sky.
So, I hold onto your memory, and I pray that you know,
That I’ll always miss you, although you’re never far.

So, where I go, you’ll be right there,
I know that you’ll be right there.
So, I lift up my head, I wont ever forget,
Forget you.

And you were never given the chance to fly.
They just told you; you were alright, you were pushed aside.
But finally, you’re free, you’re free to fly, fly,
You’re free to fly.
You’re free to fly.

Background

This song was written from the perspective of my mother, whose father was told by a medical professional that his heart issues were nothing to worry about. However, unfortunately my grandfather passed away from his medical issues not too long after. I wanted to write my song about my grandfather’s story because it is important to highlight the medical negligence that Indigenous people face in the health and medical field.

Too many Elders have and will be sent home without proper medical attention, causing their ailments to worsen. This issue stems from the miseducation of non-Indigenous doctors, and I believe by teaching them about culture and Indigenous health, we can continue to support and heal our mob!

Bio

Isaac is a 22 year old singer living on Kaurna land. He is Koreng on his father’s side and Warnman on his mother’s side, both groups located in Western Australia. Isaac grew up singing on stage in an Indigenous church, where his father was and still is the pastor.

Isaac’s mother is a very successful GP, working in Indigenous health and advocating for continued opportunities for Indigenous doctors. Isaac loves writing RnB music and would love more Indigenous artists who have a similar sound to be more recognised!
