Title: Winhangadurinya (meditate)
Artist: Dylan Crismani
Language: Wiradjuri, English
Background
When I wrote this piece I was thinking about a long hospital stay I had when I was 18 years old (suffering from acute kidney failure). It was a difficult time for me and my family, and psychologically music made a big difference. During this time I found it very hard for my mind to focus due to the immense physical I was suffering, and music was a guiding light that helped me through.
Winhangadurinya is a Wiradjuri word meaning meditation, deep listening, knowing, reflecting. This piece takes the listener on a journey to finding inner peace, providing a vessel for people to reflect and engage with their inner thoughts and actions. The narration (read by Kaneisha O’Loughlin) flows through a set of gentle instructions with healing undertones, to relax your body and mind while the rolling notes from the piano carry you through the motions.
